The old version of this article was too vague when it said ORIJEN “has had recalls in the past.” The best-documented event was in Australia in 2008 and primarily involved ORIJEN cat food. Champion Petfoods announced an Australia-only voluntary recall after cats developed neurological signs. ORIJEN dog food was also removed from Australian shelves as a precaution because cats could eat from dog bowls. Australian authorities later documented the episode and the country changed its policy on gamma irradiation of imported cat food.
